Myanmar Ocean Project
In 2018, only a few years after the country opened its doors to global visitors, the Myanmar Ocean Project (MOP) was founded. Thanda Ko Gyi, a marine conservation researcher, created the organization to restore and protect Myanmar’s oceans – a natural beauty that attract more and more tourists each year.
2019 was already a success. Myanmar Ocean Project so far has removed 1,600 KG of harmful ghost gear around the Myeik Archipelago. Ghost gear is also known as ALDFG (abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear). By creating a Moceanblue short film about these efforts, we hope to expand the local success of MOP to the global scale. To do this, we’ll closely follow one of the MOP expedition participants in 2020.
MOP currently works with National Geographic Society, Ocean Conservancy, World Animal Protection International and has been supported by Fauna & Flora International – Myanmar Programme and OIKOS. Through these existing partnerships, and the media coverage their existing efforts already attract, we see great possibilities in the reach and impact of this story.

Marine Conservation Philippines
To what extent is a local community dependent on the ocean? Why is it necessary to preserve and protect the coastal areas? We want to tell the emotionally impactful story of what a healthy ocean means for people in the Philippines.
Marine Conservation Philippines (MCP) welcomes everyone who wants to make a positive impact by volunteering in marine conservation. Think about: reef monitoring research, learn how to scuba dive, educating local youth and local fishermen, organising clean ups, promoting eco-tourism and more…
MCP was founded in 2015. By involving local governments and local communities, MCP sets a great example of how to implement marine conservation activities. The organisation started on the island of Negros and, after great success, will be expanding to other islands next year.

Sea farm IJmond
Zeeboerderij IJmond, or “Seafarm IJmond” is a duo with a great passion for the ocean. They have an ambitious but achievable goal: growing seaweed to clean the coastal waters of industrial IJmuiden! Seaweed can be used as a biofilter as well as a sustainable commodity. With their backgrounds, Nikki as bio-architect and Sjoerd as an environmental inspector, they have created a perfect alternative for plastics and a solution for companies to compensate their CO2 emissions. As Seafarm IJmond scales up over the next year, we are working to share their story and involve as many partners as possible. Our film will not only create support for this existing project but inspire future partners to invest in cleaner water and sustainable commodity alternatives.

Sealcentre Pieterburen
During the production of our first film for Sealcentre Pieterburen, we met many people working and volunteering at the centre. These people come from all over the world to the small village in Groningen in the hopes of aiding seals. Each person has their own motivation and individual background: from the crew to the students, volunteers and sponsors. With the series “Behind the Seals” we want to follow-up from the first film with a showcase of these alternative efforts. The series aims to increase awareness of Sealcentre Pieterburen’s multitude of environmental activities.
How to contribute?
We are on the look out for partners who can help us to establish this series. There are diverse branded content options illustrating your involvement in the project. Get in touch for more information.
